NU SKIN Force for Good Sang with Love Wan Fun Centre
In July, Ma Qinghua, Team Elite, Zhang Shaoru, Gold Executive, and Zhang Yahui formed a volunteer team in Taiwan, and went to Love Wan Fun Centre to accompany the service users to join the singing activity.
The centre mainly offers social welfare service to those suffering from moderate and severe somatopsychic disturbance, and aims at improving their abilities. Taipei Love Wan Fun Centre is named after its location and target. Social workers said that since Love Wan Fun is a well-equipped community with post office, supermarket, and park, etc., service users can learn how to use the services in order to increase their ability of independence and help them to incorporate with the society. For example, they can go shopping in the supermarket, which does not only allow the service users to know how to write a shopping list and buy the correct products in the supermarket, but also gives them the chance to communicate with the staffs. Besides, social workers of the centre explained the classes, the environments, and the courses they designed for the service users to the volunteer, which help to improve their abilities.
Since the service users will turn from recipients to helper in August by giving performance to other residents in the center. Therefore, the event on that day was different from the previous ones. The tutor of the centre arranged a special singing class, which let the volunteers and the service users to practice the songs which will be performed together. At first, they followed the songbooks to have the practice. Some of the service users who had already practiced in advance and they even taught the volunteers how to sing the song. Next, they increased the difficulty by adding some gestures in the performance everyone followed social workers, sings with gestures. At the beginning, they were not used to be singing with gestures, but after a few times of practice, they were able to complete all the songs smoothly. All of them sang happily and loudly. The centre was filled with joyful laughter in the whole afternoon.
Ma Qinghua, business partner who showed great patience in the event, was glad to join the service, “It is very meaningful to be a volunteer and is thus worth continuing. It helps us to know there are many people in need of help in the society.” Zhang Yahui, got the chance to communicate with several service users today and learnt a lot from the social workers, “Looking at the innocent smiles on their faces makes me feel that I got my pureness back. Sometimes I feel they were emotional, but actually they were trying to express something, so we need to pay extra attention and care on them.”
Business partners always wonder, whether they can really help the service users or not since the service hour was so short, but just like what the social workers said, it was actually good enough to see their smiles and let them enjoy the happy time, which also realized our philosophy: creating more smiles.
We would like to thank all the above business partners for their enthusiastic participation and also look forward to more people joining the volunteer activities to be a Force for Good, which spreads love and care.
