Bergen—The gateway to the fjords of Norway
Continue on your journey to qualify for the 2015 Team Elite trip, and you’ll find yourself at another remarkable Norwegian city, Bergen. Here you will enjoy the best Norway has to offer—exciting city life, quaint towns and culture, and breathtaking landscapes.
National Geographic voted Norway’s fjords as the best destination in the world. Bergen, known as the Gateway to the Fjords, is a great place to explore these famous waterways. Along with the sparkling fjords, Bergen’s unspoiled landscapes include striking snow-capped mountains, magnificent waterfalls, and gorgeous farms. Experience the natural beauty on a sightseeing tour by boat, by kayak, or by hiking the mountainous terrain.
The city is like a fairytale, featuring enchanting cobble streets and alleys where people have lived for centuries. Stop by one of Bergen’s many museums and galleries. Visit the fish market to get a feeling for local life in Bergen or go to the Bergen Aquarium and see fish, penguins, and seals in their natural element.
Stroll along the familiar wooden buildings at Bryggen Harbor to the old fortress at Bergenhus. Bryggen is on unesco’s World Heritage List and gives you a quintessential Norwegian experience.
From the city center, the Fløibanen Funicular will take you on a short ride to the top of Fløien Mountain. The funicular is one of Norway’s best-known attractions, and the journey up the mountain is an experience in itself. At the top enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the city, the fjord, the mountains, and the sea.
